An83-year-oldmanpresentedwith a recurrentmicronodular basal cell carcinoma located on the left lateral chest measuring 2.3 × 2.1 cm. His medical history was significant for coronary artery disease and the use combined clopidogrel bisulfate and aspirin antiplatelet therapy, which was maintained duringsurgery.Thetumorwasextirpatedwith6stagesofMohs micrographic surgery, producing a 10.5 × 8.9-cmdefect to the deep subcutaneous tissue. Thepatientwas adamant about returning tohis recreational activities, including golf, as soonas possible.Woundmanagementoptionswerediscussedwith the patient, and the limitations of each were noted.

Periareolar Closure With Barbed Sutures.
Periareolar closure in augmentation, mastopexy, and breast reduction has evolved dramatically over the past 10 years with changes in technique and technology. Plastic surgeons have tried many techniques from simple purse string closures using permanent sutures to interlocking purse string closures with GORE-TEX (Gore Medical, Newark, DE) or absorbable sutures. Running and interrupted suture tec...
متن کاملPhotometric analysis of absorbable barbed suture for periareolar closure in mastopexy
Aim: The primary author previously described his technique for periareolar closure in mastopexy using a pinwheel interlocking purse string with absorbable barbed suture and now reports the results of a retrospective photometric analysis comparing this technique with the same closure using Gortex® suture. This study is designed to compare the degree of areolar widening and safety profile of usin...
متن کاملAn in vivo comparison of barbed suture devices and conventional monofilament sutures for cosmetic skin closure: biomechanical wound strength and histology.
BACKGROUND Very little biomechanical or histological data exist in the peer-reviewed literature comparing absorbable monofilament sutures to commercially-available knotless, absorbable barbed suture devices for cosmetic closure of skin incisions. OBJECTIVES The authors compare two commercially-available knotless, barbed suture devices against a conventional monofilament suture in a porcine mo...
متن کاملUse of absorbable running barbed suture and progressive tension technique in abdominoplasty: a novel approach.
Certain general principles regarding abdominoplasty have remained constant throughout the last century, although incision patterns, fascial repair, and fatty contour techniques have varied. What has remained constant has been the use of a layered closure technique for final wound approximation, including in most cases the closure of Scarpa’s fascia, popularized by the work of Lockwood.1 Controv...
متن کاملPostoperative mechanical small bowel obstruction induced by V-Loc barbed absorbable suture after laparoscopic distal gastrectomy
When performing laparoscopic gastrectomy, suturing the intestinal anastomosis presents one of the greatest challenges. The V-Loc unidirectional barbed suture has been introduced to eliminate the need to tie knots during closure. This device offers a fast, secure, and effective alternative to conventional suture repair during laparoscopic surgery. However, there have been reported cases of surgi...
